Highlights of the 2008 National Memorial Day Parade:

Joe Mantegna - Tony Award-winning star of Glengarry Glen Ross and current lead in Criminal Minds on CBS. In 2004 was named Chairperson for the National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
   
Gary Sinise - Star of CSI: New York known for his role as Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump. Co-founder of Operation Iraqi Children, which helps Americans donate school supplies to Iraqi schools. His band, the Lt. Dan Band, has also played for American service members around the world.
   
Mickey Rooney - Legendary star of over 200 films and veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II. Mr. Rooney will serve as Honorary Marshal for WWII veterans, leading them down the parade route.
   
Lt. General Julius W. Becton - Decorated Army veteran who first joined Army Air Corps in July 1944 and served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Awarded the Silver Star twice, Legion of Merit twice and two Purple Hearts. Gen. Becton will serve as Honorary Marshal for the Korean War.
   
General Volney F. Warner - Veteran of Korea and Vietnam, and decorated with the Distinguished Service Medal, two Silver Stars, the Bronze Star with V Device three times, and the Distinguished Flying Cross. General Warner went on to command the XVIII Airborne Corps and 9th Infantry Division, and will serve as Honorary Marshal for the Vietnam War.
   
General Frederick M. Franks, USA-Ret - Decorated veteran of the Vietnam War and Commanding General of VII Corps in Operation Desert Storm. General Franks will serve as Honorary Marshal for the Gulf War veterans in the 2008 National Memorial Day Parade.
   
A special tribute to the “citizen soldiers” of the United States Army Reserve on its 100th Anniversary Featuring distinguished Reserve veterans and personnel throughout, the 307th Army Band, an Army Reserve honor guard, and Honorary Marshal Lt. Gen. Jack C. Stultz, Chief, Army Reserve and Commanding General, U.S. Army Reserve Command

The National Memorial Day Parade received coverage in over 230 media markets, with stories picked up by The Washington Post, The Washington Times, The New York Times, Baltimore Sun, Orange County Times, and Human Events.

Bill Inman's journey across the country by horseback will conclude at this year's Memorial Day Parade.

Bill, a Desert Shield/ Storm Veteran, and his horse, Blackie, will be representing Gulf War era veterans.

The National Moment of Remembrance – At exactly 3:00 PM, the parade will pause for one minute to observe the National Moment of Remembrance. Buglers along the parade route will play taps in honor of all who have given their lives for our country, to be followed by the ringing of an exact replica of the Liberty Bell, forged at the same foundry as the original.

A tribute to the 100th Anniversary of Navy Nursing, including active duty nurses and veterans led by Rear Admiral Christine Bruzek-Kohler, Director of the Navy Nurse Corps.

A working replica of the Ft. Myer Flyer, the first successfully flown aircraft for the Army in 1908, signaling the beginning of military aviation. Appearing with the Flyer will be Col. Laura Richardson, Army aviator and Garrison Commander of Ft. Myer.

Recipients of the Medal of Honor, our nation’s highest military award.

Bob Feller, baseball Hall of Famer and Navy veteran of World War II.

Brig. Gen. R. Steve Ritchie, the only Air Force “ace” pilot of the Vietnam War.

A military flyover above the parade route.

Marching bands from around the country, military vehicles, parade floats and balloons,

And

Hundreds of active duty service members
and veterans from World War II through
Operation Iraqi Freedom.
